Eldred Varsity Girls Win Sections

As the sun hit the horizon at Faller Field, Middletown, NY; the Varsity girl's soccer team for Eldred had been crowned the Section 9 Class D champions. Last year: almost the same exact group of girls had done the unimaginable; they earned a place up in the New York State championship. This year when playing they showed a fierce hunger to win the title again, and hopefully make it as far as they did last year.

I am the striker for Eldred's team, and I have attended almost every practice these 3 months of playing soccer. I have seen my team develop a bond of trust and learn to fully understand each other on and off the field. When the bus pulled up to the field already seeing the Manor girls on the field, I along with everyone else on my team knew, Manor was going to bring their all.

Earlier this season, our coach, J.J. Gass, drilled it into our minds to set small goals for our team. First win all of the four league games we had on our schedule against the other Class D schools, Chapel Field and Manor. Which we did, but this season all the excitement came from playing against the bigger schools and winning. We had played against Monticello (Class A), Liberty (Class B), Port Jervis (Class B) and won. When it was all said and done, we finished with a record of 13-2-1! This was a huge accomplishment and our team was ready to move onto our next goal, which was win sections.

As we stepped out to the beautiful turf field of Middletown, it was a good feeling to be back. The freshmen that were not on the team last year stood in awe. The game was about to start, so we ran our lap and stretched; our usual preparation before a game. Our stomachs were turning when the refs blew the whistle for the game to start.

The starters for Eldred went to their usual positions; Jenna Burns in the goal, her steady defense set up like a diamond infront of her with Alaina Gaughan, Erin Clarkin, Savannah Finck, and Addy Bodnaruik. Sheila Burns, Kassandra Weatherly, and Alyssa McGrail were the fast, controllers of the midfield. Jordan Lepes, Melissa McMonagle, and I had the offensive attackers upfront.

When Jordan Lepes headed the ball in off the corner kick I took, that was the first goal of the game in the first half. The battle remained between both the teams, all through the last minutes of the first half and the beginning of the second. When Sheila Burns the center midfielder, made the second goal, it was over for the Manor team. Eldred girls became ecstatic and were determined to hold their two point lead.

The final four blows of the game, was the best feeling imaginable. The players on the bench rushed out to the field; 20 girls (the names not mentioned before: Cat Nicholson, Tabby Banghart, Sammi Clemons, Lauren Frey, Gemma MacFee, Francine McDonnell, Molly Clarkin, Julia Foster, and Ally Rumsey), were jumping and screaming with joy because of their accomplishment.
Coach Gass smiled and told his team was on to their next goal to win Regionals. November 8th in Albany my team and I will have to prove ourselves to New York State again and try to qualify for States again.

A New Type of High

How do you find your high? For a small group in Russia, sharing the same mutual interest in urban life and the landmarks that are constructed in them, it is scooping buildings and structures scattered throughout widely known cities. OTR (On the Roofs), has young photographers on a quest for captures of a more thrilling perspective of cities all over the world, just "for fun".

About five years ago (2009) in Moscow; a group of driven kids began to climb the simple buildings of Russia, with the idea that a beautiful still would come out of it. The audacious members desperately yearned for more exciting pictures though. They started then to scale larger skyscrapers. Still that wasn't enough for these adrenaline junkies. Claiming OTR wanted better footage, they started to migrate to different countries, and climb some of the world's tallest skyscrapers and perilously lean over edges with their video cameras.

They literally have gone out on a limb to get the most amazing footage. However, OTR has also seized parts of the subways and subterranean locations that are not regularly noticed by everyday passersby. Some places are strictly prohibited, and when they enter them they are considered trespassing. But they're not scared of the heights and spiders in these grimy areas, they are most terrified of the police catching them. OTR have ventured into at least 50 different countries and counting, Arabian countries are the most dangerous in consequences that would result if they were to be caught.

Manhunt for Eric Frein Lasting 6 Weeks

On September 12, Eric Matthew Frein shot and killed Officer Cpl. Bryon Dickson, near Blooming Glove, Pennsylvania. Frein made a run for the woods after the ambush.

No one has suspected Frein to last this long in the Northeast woods of Pennsylvania with packs of armed forces on the hunt for him. Frein is a highly specialized survivalist and has spent years in Russia learning combat. It has been six weeks, and they've only had a few leads from the dogs picking up scent.

Frein was reportedly spotted early this week by a resident in the thickly wooded town of Swiftwater, PA. Schools in that area have been closed down. Most the towns in the Northeast part of Pennsylvania have canceled Halloween parades and trick-or-treating. Some are allowing dances to occur at local high schools though, but it is "better to be safe than sorry."

Eric Frien, is number one on ten most wanted list.

College Student Dies of Meningitis

Panic has arisen from the San Diego State University, California; after an 18-year-old student, Sara Stelzer, has passed away from Meningitis. They are urgently trying to medically check all the people she might have had contact with. It was reported that there was at least 300-400 people that need to be notified for their own safety.

Stelzer was a freshman at the college and was studying pre communications. She was also a part of the Sorority of Kappa Delta. Two major fraternity parties occurred October 8th and 9th, that she attended. Doctors were recommending campus wide notifications to be sent out to all that attended the Sorority party.

Last Tuesday she was hospitalized with flu-like symptoms (fever, head-ache, vomiting, and nausea). It was too late to save Stelzer, she died last Friday in the hospital. Although the bacterium is not easily transmitted through the air, it is more common with direct contact. Such as sharing glasses, utensils, cigarettes, water bottles, and of course kissing. Any student on the campus that has suspected Meningitis symptoms should go start to the ER department for treatment.

WWII U-Boat Found Off Coast in North Carolina

Crew members standing on the U-576 sub in Germany.
Over 72-years-ago, a U-boat for German troops was sunk during a battle right off the East Coast of the United States, near North Carolina. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced the news about the wreckage that was discovered this Tuesday. About 240 yards from the German sub there was another ship, a American Merchant tanker ship, called Bluefields.

According to documents, the U-576 German-sub in early July of 1942, head commander, Kapitanleutant Hans-Dieter Heinicke, had reported back to base claiming the ship was damaged and they were on their way back to Germany. They were on a month-long patrol against the American allied shipping supplies, and had no success. On their voyage back, the sub encountered 19 merchant vessels. Heinicke decided to fire, wanted redemption for their month long failure patrolling. At least seven torpedoes were fired; the U-576 had damaged two other ships including Bluefields. In response, a US Navy Kingfisher aircraft on board of one of the vessels, bombed the sub. Some deck guns from ships were also shooting at U-576. On July 14, 1942 about 4:30 P.M., the sub had sunk. Forty-five casualties were contained in the U-boat, and still are to this day.

Bluefields was damaged severely, but before it was fully submerged underwater, the American troops evacuated the ship.

Boy Found and Re-United With His Mother

The young boy and his mother.

Through all the disaster occurring in the Middle East, here comes a heartwarming story about a mother and son reunited.
Pranvera Zena had her eight-year-old son, Erion, taken from her in June 2014. She made her claim about the boy's father, Arben, taking their son to Syria to fight for the Islamic State. Erion Arbazi, followed his father from across the border of Albania, and then flew with him from Tirana to Turkey, until they eventually ended up in Syria. Reportedly, Arben was supposed to take their son on an expedition to the Kosovo Mountains, instead he took their young son on an adventure he will never forget.

Erion, with the help of social media, was seen in pictures holding up the Islam State (IS) sign, wrestling with other children, all next to a militant black flag. Rescue operations used advanced technology to view Skype calls militant families had in the camps, and also linked into phone calls between Pranvera and Arben, before finally having an idea where Erion was. Careful analysis was authorized for this dangerous operation to get Erion out of the camp, safe and alive.

Members of Chinese Cult Sentenced To Death

Five members from the Chinese doomsday cult were detained and each given certain charges for the murder of a women in McDonalds. Allegedly the report from the police say, the cult had asked the 37-year-old women, Wu Shuoyan, for her number trying to recruit new members. When she refused them, the cult had attacked and had brutally beaten her to death.

Two of the members, Zhang Fan and Zhang Lidong, were sentenced to death. A gruesome description of how these two killed the women was given out to the media. They stomped on her face, took mops and chair from the restaurant, and smashed them across her face until they broke. While other members, such as, Lyu Yingchun, Zhang Hang, and Zhang Qialolin, had just kicked her. They were each sentenced to life, or 7-10 years in prison depending on how they act in prison for the next couple of years.

The cult they are apart of are enrolled in the Church of Almighty God, and they believe one of their members, Yang, was recreated from Jesus Christ. They have been suspected for other charges in the past decade about abductions and kidnappings, making them apart of the list of banned church groups.

Young Boy Kills 90-Year-Old Woman

For the Kurilla family, after they found out that their son had just killed a 90-year-old woman for yelling at him, their lives have been permanently transformed.

The 10-year-old attends Damascus Elementary School in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. Police reports state he did not mean to kill the women, and that he just wanted to "hurt her". The boy admitted to everything, he even described his brutal approach to Helen Novak, the elder women that he killed Saturday morning. He grabbed a wooden crane, and held it against her neck for several seconds, before punching her in the throat and stomach.

The scene where the crime was committed was at the young boys grandfathers house, Anthony Virbitsky. The boy told his grandpa about Novak bleeding, and at first refused to ever touching her. Virbitsky found no blood, but police reports stated that he did find that she was breathing heavily which was odd and asked her repetitively if she was okay. Not even an hour after he left her, did she die.

Her death was ruled as a homicide. The juvenile detention center will not take homicide cases, so the young boy will have an adult court decide his fate in jail. He is without bail and is set to appear in court on October 22.

Balloons Create Tension Between Two Rivals

This is the highest-level of talk between the uneasy neighboring countries of North and South Korea that has occurred in several years. Giant balloons with anti-Kim Jong UN messages were supposedly sent to fly over North Korea from South Korean activists. The response from North Korea was to shoot them down. Almost immediately did both sides end exchanging some fire. The South Korean ministry of Defense claimed the meeting was held for "good will", and the safety of prevention of more conflict. There was also some discussion about cleaning up some of the tensions between the two nations but there was no set date for another meeting in the future.

Wal-Mart Cuts Health Benefits For Part-TIme Workers

Wal-Mart was astonished over how costly their company's employee payments have become over the past year. It was proven that over 500 million more dollars were needed to pay for the health enrollment this year compared to last year. A study showed that many of the part-time workers have signed up for health benefits. A major reason for the demand in extra help in medical assistant is due to Obama Care, which requires health coverage for everyone. Wal-Mart operators did not realize the impact it would have on their revenue made.

The company needed to adjust the eligibility of health benefits for their employees. Most part-time workers were cut and are available for government subsidies though from Obama Care. Many other big time corporations are dealing with same problems, like Home Depot and Target.

Bodies Found From Shooting In Mexico

On September 26 in Southern Mexico, a bus carrying soccer players and students were shot up by gunmen. It was reported that three students were killed among the six found dead. Also, a 15-year-old male that participate on the soccer club was among those found dead. Over 43 people are still missing. This Saturday police authorities in Mexico's Guerrero State, along a gravel back road, found unmarked graves full of human remains.

Ebola Patient Was Relesased From Hospital

The patient suffering from Ebola virus disease, in a Texas hospital, had told the nurse about his recent journey to Africa. The nurse claimed she "misheard" the patient, and never passed the information to the other hospital employees. They later then released a severely infected patient with "flu like" symptoms home with just antibiotics.

It was later reported those two days after, the patient needed ambulance assistance to be brought back to the hospital. The patient symptoms have worsened, and had to be immediately isolated in an area. The executive vice present, Dr. Mark Lester, stated that the patient was not given the clinical procedure for an Ebola patient.

This is great example of why Americans should at least be checked with screen tests after visiting any foreign place. Any immigrants coming into America should have a screen test protocol too. This will prevent any disease break-outs from occurring.

North Korea Upgrading Their Space Equipment

According to CNN, North Korea have made larger rockets and advanced their space equipment. Which they claim will allow them to "to move forward with another rocket launch". Satellite images from South Korea's military protocol; gave them access to a view on North Korea's new launch pad and gantry tower that holds the rocket in place. This was a year long construction project. North Korea's decision on whether they are going to launch any rockets could have some political concern with South Korea, though. Many tests need to be done to make sure that the rockets are safe and capable of lasting in space.

Unsanitary Streets of Inida, Waste Removing Starts

In the streets of Mumbai, according to CNN, in areas where there is no flush system waste removers started to clean up the waste or "night soil".  The streets of India are scattered with human excretion and the government has hired waste removers to sanitize them. Studies show that at least 50% of India's population does not have access to toilets. People who are considered diseased and the lowest caste in India's caste system, untouchables, are considered to be in the most danger. Still, the workers and people of India have a long road ahead of making India a more healthier, sanitary place to live.

Volcano Eruption In Japan

In this Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014 photo released by Tokyo Fire Department, firefighters carry a hiker trapped in the summit area of Mount Ontake during Saturday's initial eruption during rescue operations in central Japan.

In Japan on Saturday, Mount Ontake started to erupt into clouds of miles thick ash that overthrew sight for hikers on the paths, and near-by residents. At least 36 people could notescape. Relatives to the victims are still desperately looking for their loved ones gone missing. It was estimated that over 200 people were hiking at the time of the eruption.

Researchers claim that Mount Ontake still isn't through with Japan and its residents. Over 17-20 inches of ash have been recorded to cover the areas around and on Mount Ontake. As hydrogen sulfide gas still spews from the mountain, search parties are restrained from exploring the mountain. Japan is on a high alert of 1 to 3 due to the chance of this volcano to erupt again in the next week.  Last eruption lasted for months and spilled out over 200,000 tons of ash.
