ISIS Advances in Syrian Areas, Causing Thousands To Leave

Syrians and Iraqians flee the country.
In Iraq and Syria, 200,000 refugees had to abandon their homes, jobs, and way of life due to ISIS expanding in their area. Many are now in Turkey, says the London monitoring groups.
The United Nations claimed that Turkey had reduced the amount of people they're allowing to cross over the border, because of how many people they have received in the past couple of days. Before children can cross over they have to have a vaccination. All are checked for ID, medical issues, and most importantly firearms or anything dangerous.

There is no religious freedom in these nations. Muslim is the major religion for Syria and Iraq. Christians are tormented, taxed or even killed if they do not convert to this religion or some are not even given the chance. This is one of the main causes to thousands of residents fleeing the safety of their homes.

Restaurant Uses Drug-Laced Powder On Noodles

A restaurant in Hong Kong, served there special dish extra special. The noodles tasted so good they were addicting. The chief had powered on a poppy plant that had opium in it.

The owner admitted he had bought about 4 lbs. of the substance for $98, back in the summer time. Since then, the "secret ingredient" was sprinkled on the noodles in the restaurant.

This was all discovered by the police on Wednesday, when a 26-year-old man was pulled over by an officer on his way home from the restaurant. He was tested for drug use, and it came up positive, this was right after he had just eaten a bowl of noodles. The man was kept in custody for 15 days for drug abuse. His name was not given due the fact that family members also had eaten at the restaurant. They were all tested and the results came up positive.

Studies showed that it is unlikely for someone to get extremely addicted off of just eating a bowl of noodles powered with this drug.

500 Migrants Dead In Boat Sinking

In the Mediterranean Sea, each year, over tens of thousands of people are saved from near-death drowning incidents. According to the European Union border agency, Frontex, the migrant death rate at sea has increased so much in the past years they will start to take action because it is "unacceptable".

Tuesday of this week, it was reported that as many as 500 migrants died when traffickers, or smugglers, sunk their boat. The traffickers were enraged with the migrants and had begun throwing sticks and screaming out at the boat for the migrants to leave. Finally, the migrants refused and the traffickers rocketed towards their boat. As some passengers found smaller boat vessels for safety, others jumped into the water or even killed themselves refusing to be abandoned at sea. A survivor reported that the traffickers might have been Egyptians and Palestinians; they waited for the boat to sink completely before sailing away, laughing the entire time.

A lot of the deaths were caused from those that were below deck, they were unable to escape fast enough and drowned. For over a week, migrants had to stay afloat in the water, trying to withstand the strength of the strong winds, huge waves, and freezing water. At least a 100 of the dead migrants were reported children.

Georgia Wants to Join Forces With Urkraine

Georgia has been yearning to join the forces of NATO, since Russia tried to invade their two territories that covered 20% of its land back in 2008. Russia and Georgia have been fighting wars for many centuries on and off. Georgia is free from Russia, but they are still a prized target for Russia. Since Russia issued an attack on Ukraine, Georgians fear that Russia might try and seize the border of Georgia where there are ethnic Russians there.

The NATO flag (blue) and Georgia's national flag (red and white).
The United States and other NATO allies are uncertain about adding Ukraine and Georgia, because it might provoke Russia which may create grim tension. It may also challenge Iraq, Siberia, and elsewhere to create conflict. Things are looking pretty good for Georgia, they were named as part of the top 5 nations designated as enhanced partners of the alliance. Georgia's military capabilities will become more upgraded as they also look for more help from the US to advance in future years.

Lung Cancer Testing Starting Up In UK

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02158/cancer_2158243b.jpg
The screening of the lungs picking up cancer.
According to BBC News health reports,
the UK will start checking smokers for lung cancer. It is a start to try and prolong their duration if they are diagnosed with this deadly disease. As cancer progresses in the body it not only prevents them from a lot of physical activity, but it decreases their life expectancy. Currently 75% of cancer patients cannot be saved because they become aware too late. Especially in the UK, cancer is the
biggest cause for death.

By the end of 2016, with the rate technology has been increasing enabling the cost of screening to decline and data on mortality to advance a great deal, doctors do believe they could save about 70% of smokers lives by getting rid of the cancer before it is too late. The screening is recommended for people between the ages of 55 and 80, who have smoked about a pack of cigarettes a day for about 30 years.

The US and their Medicare Federal Agencies have decided that they will make the decision in November on whether the low-dose CT screen over the lungs should take place. They need to balance out the benefits with the harms. While other countries like Netherlands, Belgium, and UK are waiting on the screening so they can test the trials.

At the moment, UK scientists are working hard in the lab to make sure the results from the screening are effective and not dangerous.

Derek Jeter Retiring From New York Yankees

All the National Baseball team flags were taken down and
replaced by Derek Jeter's logo flags in the stadium.

In New York City, last Sunday, new flags were risen with the logo of the retiring shortstop for the Yankees.  "Derek Jeter", once the speaker announced his name, the entire crowd would scream, rumbling the Yankees Stadium. They all stand and lift their caps in complete awe over the icon stepping onto the baseball field. He has been the captain of the Yankees for the past ten years, leading his team to four World Series and uncountable playoffs. He was the MVP of the 2000 World Series against the NY Mets.

Throughout his career he has played amazing defense which is why he has won the Golden Glove five times, and tremendous offense. He is the only New York Yankee to ever hit over 3,000 hits and still counting; this sets him in sixth place on the MLB all-time list. As for the postseason, Jeter has 200 career hits, which is the most in MLB history.

The Captain will be missed dearly, and has had "the greatest job in the world". A big thanks for his dedication through it all and setting a good example for young athletes to look up too. Derek Jeter has proved that "dreams do really come true," if only you work for it.
